Quiz & Curry Night

On Wednesday 23rd January, we held our first ever Quiz & Curry Night at Groveland Park and the place was packed! Kevin Fuller played the part of quizmaster for the evening and the night was a huge success – it was possibly even our busiest event yet.

Everyone living here had a blast and we were also joined by many family members and friends – there was more than enough healthy competition to go around and there was more than enough curry too! Our wonderful chefs cooked up a storm, with all sorts of Indian dishes available for everyone to enjoy, and it all went down an absolute treat.

Following a few heated rounds of quizzing, the winning team was presented with our golden trophy cup, along with an envelope containing a fine dining experience for eight people here at Groveland Park! Second prize was an extravagant hamper and third prize was a luxury hamper – and everyone received a golden medal for taking part. Last but not least, the lowest-scoring team won our hand-decorated wooden spoons…

Now the bar has been set and our champions have been crowned – who will win the trophy at our next Quiz & Curry Night?

Getting in the Christmas spirit

On a chilly Saturday afternoon earlier this month, we thought it would be a nice idea to take some of our residents on a trip over to Bluewater to admire the dazzling Christmas lights. The roads were lined with trees and twinkling lights, and in the centre stood huge reindeer, which looked stunningly breathtaking, and by the side of the lake was also the ice-skating rink. We stopped here to have a look – it was lovely to be part of such a special place, and watching families and friends having fun together brought smiles to all our faces. To top it all off, we enjoyed a delicious cup of hot chocolate, followed by the singing of Christmas songs on our journey home.

Remembrance Sunday

Owing to the significance of Remembrance Sunday this year, with it marking the 100th anniversary of the end of World War I, we went all out in our efforts – with the help of Julie, one of our regular volunteers, our residents managed to make over 120 knitted poppies.

Our knit and natter group is growing in size each week, as everybody wants to get involved in raising money for the Greenwich & Bexley Hospice. By selling poppies, we raised almost £300, which is absolutely amazing.

In previous years, our fundraising efforts have always been a success with the handmade poppies, so watch out for what we have in store for next year…

Las Vegas Dance Show

On Friday 9th November, we spent yet another fabulous all-inclusive evening at Groveland Park, this time with the very glamorous ‘Showgirl Sisters’! At our Vegas Dance Show, complete with American appetisers and sassy cocktails, a great night was had by all, with fantastic dancing and great music.

The show was a mixture of dance routines from Vegas and lyrical jazz numbers bringing some glitz and glamour, and the ladies dazzled us with custom-made costumes and bubbly personalities. This was a fantastic night loved by all our residents and visitors who attended.
