Stepping back in time to the 1940s... it must be time for the Victory Tea Dance!

We had a fantastic day trip over to Grays Civic Hall in Essex yesterday for the Victory Tea Dance, where we were transported back to the 1940s – the place was set out just like a dance hall would have been, with the big band up on stage, tables all around and a huge open dancefloor.

We were entertained by the M7 Dance Band with cabaret from Annie Riley, Le’arna Castle, Lloyd Ellery, Mike Marandi, Viv the Spiv, special guest Scott Elvis, and not forgetting the host, Micky Driver. We all had so much fun dancing the afternoon away and enjoying a delicious afternoon tea.

We can’t wait for next year’s dance already!

D-Day night was a nostalgic event and to mark this significant date, we invited an amazing duo into our home, Kate and Kirsty. They brought the true meaning of honour to Groveland Park; our residents were overwhelmed as the ladies performed in authentic uniforms and sang a whole host of well-loved songs. We had tears and laughter throughout, remembering all those who were lost 75 years ago.

We’re ending spring with a bang as today, the CQC has named us as an ‘Outstanding’ care home!

As of 31st May 2019, we are officially ‘Outstanding’, an accomplishment that only 3.7% of care homes in the UK manage to achieve – and we couldn’t be prouder.

Thank you to the residents, family members, friends and staff for making this happen as it’s thanks to each and every person in the Groveland Park community that this home is what it is.

The official inspection report will be released by the CQC in due course.

From 15th – 21st May, it was Dementia Week and here at Groveland Park, we wanted to get involved. We put on a week of fun and exciting things to do, and our residents really loved it.

In addition to our usual weekly activities, we held a community coffee morning, a Bollywood workshop, we were visited by our friends from Safe Haven Animal Rescue, we hosted the Golden Groove Band, we held a Visual Colourful & Interactive Magic Show, we had live entertainment here in our home, a Pilates class and we even had stimulating energizing fun with Gfitness!

We decided to sell handmade knitted brooches like last year, made by our residents and their family members, with all money raised donated to Alzheimer’s Society. Thank you to everyone who made and bought brooches! It really was a great week.

A visit from Safe Haven Animal Rescue

Safe Haven Animal Rescue came to visit us here at Groveland Park last month, bringing a wonderful array of animals to see the residents! All the animals love lots of cuddles, which made this sensory session a full success.

This local family-run rescue centre’s main aim is to provide a safe shelter for animals in need, no matter how big or small they are – they endeavour to strengthen these animals and find their forever homes. They’re a non-profit organisation that solely rely on the goodwill of donations and their own investments.

The rescue centre started off with just horses but that soon expanded, and they now have a tortoise, ducks, chickens and much more. If you would like to find out more about them, please feel free to contact safehavenanimals@hotmail.com. We would love to see Safe Haven here again soon.
